Privacy Policy

CarManual.in is a reference site. There are no accounts, no logins and no newsletter, so there is very little about you for this site to hold. This page sets out what it does collect and who else is involved.

What is stored in your browser

• Country preference. When you choose a country in the header, the choice is saved as a cookie named cm_country and in your browser’s local storage, for one year. It holds only a country name such as india. It is first-party, it is not sent to anyone else, and clearing your browser data removes it.
• Country guess for this visit. If you have never chosen a country, a guess is kept in session storage for the current visit only and is discarded when you close the tab.

Your IP address

To guess which country to show you, your IP address is sent once to ipapi.co, which returns a two-letter country code. Only the country code is kept, and only for up to twelve hours, so a repeat visit does not repeat the lookup. If you choose a country yourself, this lookup does not happen at all.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics, added through Google Site Kit, to understand which pages are read. Google sets its own cookies and receives information about your visit, including a shortened form of your IP address. Google’s handling of that data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent it with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking the script in your browser.

Server records

The hosting provider keeps standard web server logs — IP address, the page requested, the time, the browser’s user agent — for security and troubleshooting. A content delivery network sits in front of the site and keeps similar records. These are ordinary operational logs and are not used to build a profile of you.

What this site does not do

• It does not sell or rent information about you.
• It does not run advertising networks or retargeting pixels.
• It does not ask for your name, address or payment details.
• It does not track you across other websites.

Links to other sites

Manual and specification pages link to manufacturer websites. Once you follow such a link you are on someone else’s site, under their privacy policy, not this one.

Your rights

Because this site holds nothing that identifies you, there is normally nothing to give you a copy of or to erase. If you believe otherwise, or you want data held by Google about your visits removed, write to info@carmanual.in and say what you are asking for. Requests about analytics data may have to be directed to Google, and that will be explained if so.

Children

This site is aimed at car owners and is not directed at children, and it does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If what is collected changes — a contact form, a comment system, anything at all — this page is updated before the change goes live.
